Corfu Greece

Today we anchored at Corfu Greece. Our plan today was just to do the Hop On Hop Off bus loop and see what we could see. The bus took us to what was called the New Fort as well as the Old Fort. Both forts looked quite old to us but here are a couple pictures of the Old Fort.

We also came across a fellow touring through Europe on his motorcycle. Below is a very efficiently packed motorcycle

Back on our ship we noticed this yacht next to us.




A little research on the internet and we discovered that this yacht is the the 23rd largest luxury yacht in the world at 377 feet in length. This yacht has 10 VIP staterooms, a 20 meter long pool, 6 tenders and 1 mini submarine. A crew of 50 is required to operate this vessel. On an even more interesting note this yacht has bullet proof glass, bomb proof doors and an anti missile system which leaves you wondering who owns this. All I can tell you is that the owner is Russian.

That evening we were treated to the a Canadian artist, Eric Waugh, doing sketches of us on his new iPad. Sheryl was one of the lucky models.

July 12 - 13, 2017 So got up early (early being 9 pm, midnight, 3 am and then 6:30 am) but actually dragged my butt out of bed around 7:30 am. Had a fantastic breakfast consisting of the fluffiest eggs I've ever had, some fantastic cheeses and cured meats (yes they were pork) and orange juice that would put both California and Florida to shame. I topped this off with three cups of great Italian coffee. Sheryl had the same but no meat or coffee (if she only knew what she was missing out on). Italy of course has the best Italian food and to counter the effects of eating it we decided walking was going to be our means of transportation. And walk we did. Our hotel is about 20 minutes from the centre of the old town of Florence. One thing you notice in Florence is that almost everyone has a scooter as their means of transportation. Tuscany

July 22 - 27, 2017 So goodbye Azamara and hello to my new ride, a Ford something or other. So another benefit of a small cruise ship is you can get off fairly quickly. Disembarkation started at 8:15 am and ended an hour later at 9:15 am. We then walked a short distance (well 1 1/2 Kms) to the local Hertz rental location. We originally rented a small SUV that was guaranteed to hold our two suit cases. I didn’t take a photo of the SUV but trust me it was small. That didn’t bother me as it would be easy getting around and parking with this vehicle. The issue we had was there was no GPS in the car and the cost to add one would be 118 Euros (would be cheaper to buy my own). But for an additional 60 Euros, we got a rather large Ford which had GPS in it and would most certainly test my driving abilities around curves and in the parking lots.
